JAARS

Aviation Training Fellowship

July 2023 - June 2024 • Waxhaw, NC

What I liked

My time in the Aviation Training department at JAARS has provided amazing first-hand experience in the mission aviation world. This fellowship afforded me a chance to see what it would be like to work for an organization I've wanted to be a part of since I first visited in 2016. Since I arrived, I have felt very encouraged in moving forward towards my goal flying for missions. I have weekly professional coaching sessions with my supervisor, from whom I have learned so much. I also get to spend an hour each week with my spiritual coach, intentionally digging deeper in my faith and seeking a closer walk with God. Spending these 11 months growing spiritually, professionally, and just as a whole person has been immeasurably valuable. Oh, and the fact that I get to combine my love of aviation and my love of Christ by piloting vision flights in JAARS' C172 is kind of amazing too.

Advice

Go for it! Apply and see what God does. I never realized just how short 11 months is until this fellowship started. It's really a great way to get involved in missions, grow as an individual, and be part of a wonderful community.

Outdoor and Multi-Generational Engagement Fellow

July 2021 - June 2022 • Waxhaw, NC

What I liked

As someone interested in a career in missions, the 11-month JAARS Fellows program has allowed me to network with people and "get my foot in the door" of a well-known missions organization. I've gained valuable skills and professional experience, but the Fellows program is so much more than just a job. I have greatly benefited from the intentional mentoring, discipleship, and community that is built into the Fellows program!

Advice

You don't necessarily have to apply for a fellowship position within your field of study. I graduated with a degree in linguistics and I have a passion for Bible translation, but I applied for the Outdoor and Multi-Generational Engagement Fellow position which involves helping with the administrative work and facilitating of various camp-type programs put on by JAARS. Though the position doesn't relate directly to my major, I've found that this position has been the perfect fit for all my skills and interests!
