Camp Counselor Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved working in a setting that promoted important job and real-world skills, but one that was still lighthearted and allowed employees to truly enjoy their work. The job required holding major responsibilities that came with working with young children, but there were also many opportunities to have fun and express myself. The environment was filled with energetic and driven employees who varied in age, allowing for even more potential to learn and grow.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to stay for the full eight weeks the program ran. The last week of work conflicted with returning back to college, but other than that everything was perfect.

Advice

I feel that it is important to not get too hung up on adhering to the "traditional" course a college student often feels pressured to take. Just because I did not hold a job or an internship in my intended field of work, it did not mean I wasn't gaining a fulfilling summer work experience.
