Jewish Museum of Maryland

About Jewish Museum of Maryland

The Jewish Museum of Maryland collects, preserves, and studies the history and material culture of Maryland Jewry, including two historic synagogues at our Herbert Bearman campus. Our exhibitions, programs, and activities interpret the American Jewish experience for diverse audiences, foster cross-cultural understanding, and promote public discourse about issues in Jewish and American life.

VISION:

The museum will manifest its mission in the next five to seven years by creating:
•An educational attraction – encouraging more visitors to engage in our historic sites, exhibits and collections; expanding our public offerings and increasing public awareness of the Museum…we will become a destination.
•Resources for Jewish study and scholarship – adding to our communal depth of understanding of Jewish identity through the preservation and meaningful examination of the experiences of individuals and communities…we will become a site of documentation with access to expert resources.
•A vibrant center for public dialogue and personal enlightenment – using the platform of the Museum for the discussion of issues of vital interest to the Jewish community and as point of community convening in downtown Baltimore…we will become a site of discourse.
•Experiences that reflect a broader context for Maryland Jewish history – drawing connections to individuals and groups, events and trends in American history, to contemporary life, and to our hopes and aspirations for the future…we will become a site of discovery.
