Summer Intern

June - August 2019 • Long Beach, CA

What I liked

I loved working with so many amazing people from my community and doing everything in my power to help them. I also really loved interacting with my co-workers, working on my Spanish, and expanding my legal knowledge.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to be paid more, but I know that it's not really possible. (We received only an academic stipend, which is unfortunately taxed at self-employment rate.)

Advice

I would advise anyone who joins JusticeCorps to be prepared for days that can be very emotionally draining. Sometimes, litigants tell you parts of their life stories that can be difficult to listen to, especially without imparting judgment. I suggest developing a strong relationship with co-workers and supervising attorneys so you can discuss these situations later.
