What I liked

I appreciated the rigor of the training. This was my second semester working with Katch, and they did a really fantastic job of keeping us all up to date on changes made to our program. The Katch internship program also makes it almost impossible to stay disconnected. I was able to network and talk with people in the program very easily, and everyone was very open, including the program coordinators and our CEOs. Katch was very dedicated to maintaining a positive work environment, which was obvious being a part of their team.

What I wish was different

I wish the onboarding process went a little smoother. I realize Katch is a new company, but there were quite a few delays due to issues with the program. Besides this, I have no other complaints.

Advice

If you are interested in the film/television industry, this is a great way to build up your knowledge and your network. If you are someone that wants to work in production, or do something more hands on, this may not be the choice for you. However, it is still a great opportunity to get a really well-rounded knowledge of content and what exactly film and television is made up of. I would also recommend that if this position does interest you, take advantage of all of the resources that Katch provides. Going to speaker series and game nights are invaluable as they help to create a sense of community that is vital in any job that you apply for.

What I liked

I loved the friendly atmosphere supervisors. There are an earnest, genuine effort to create community, and the company valued kindness and integrity above everything else.

What I wish was different

The large amount of interns made the company seem impersonal at times, and it felt intimidating to reach out and make connections. I would have loved more small group gatherings where I could get to know the coordinators on a more personal level.

Advice

Use the opportunity to network with the people in the company, even if it's scary, and have fun watching films for work!

What I liked

I really liked getting to know the Katch team and my fellow interns. There were a lot of social events and opportunities provided to us.

What I wish was different

I would prefer a paid internship role.

Advice

See if there is a way for you to get around the charge for your college's internship class. It isn't fair to have to pay $3K to work an unpaid job.

What I liked

I really enjoyed our weekly Speaker Series. Each week we were able to send in our questions and to participate in talks with someone in the industry.

What I wish was different

Actually concerning the speaker series, I wish there was a bit more of a heads up for the time and day of the talk.

Advice

We watched a ton of movies during this internship. I suggest not only watching "classic" films, but really be on the look for for "bad" films as well. You can learn a lot by watching those "bad" films too.

What I liked

Incredible internship that really shows you a different, more data-driven side of film that certainly changed the way that I watch media. Also, the ability to network and meet so many incredible students with similar interests was a great experience. Excellent leadership who really care about the success and learning experiences of the interns!

What I wish was different

Only thing I was was different was that we could meet in person, but due to the pandemic this wasn't a possibility. I'm sure once the pandemic is over there will be opportunities to meet other interns and leadership in person!

Advice

Take full advantage of all the opportunities that you are afforded! Getting to listen to incredible speakers was one of the best things about this internship. Very valuable insight into what it takes to succeed in this industry.
