Kate Arnold Wines

Marketing Intern

February 2023 • Athens, GA

What I liked

Kate Arnold Wines is an experience like no other. Not only have I been able to develop my marketing and business skills in many different ways, Jean pushes me to go out of my comfort zone. Jean cares deeply for every one of his employees and wants them to have the best experience working here. He takes time to get to know each of his interns and helps them grow in their careers well as a person. At Kate Arnold Wines, you will not only work on your own projects but also collaborate with other interns constantly. Many of the projects overlap with several tasks, which is also a great learning experience in itself. Jean provides a friendly, upbeat, hardworking, and flexible work environment. I have deeply enjoyed my time at Kate Arnold Wines, and cannot wait to see how this year goes!

Advice

My advice is to go into this job with an open mind and a hardworking spirit. The opportunities given at Kate Arnold Wines are not like many you will find. You not only work in your “job-specific” area, but you will also take part in almost every other aspect of the company. Jean is filled with extensive knowledge that he willingly shares with his interns, and I advise you to take it all in and have fun with it. He is always open to a teaching experience, and wants his employees to succeed in this job and on to their future careers!

What I liked

What I love most about Kate Arnold Wines was the amount of knowledge and experience I gained working here. Since it is a small company, you are able to get copious amounts of one-on-one learning with Jean, the owner of the company. You feel like an important aspect of the company, because you are! Your thoughts and opinions are listened to, and the work environment is peaceful and fun.

What I wish was different

I honestly wish that I could have had more time to work here. Working at Kate Arnold Wines has been a delightful experience!

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions when you are unsure about something. Again, this is the best job to be curious and learn, so do just that! Before working here, I had no prior experience in analytics in a real-world setting. Kate Arnold Wines has most definitely prepared me for a non-internship position after college.

What I liked

Kate Arnold Wines is a growing company with the ability to teach a lot to the interns who work there! The office is filled with interns from across UGA's campus, and Jean is a great leader for the company. During my time with Kate Arnold Wines, I was able to have direct impact on the projects I was assigned and expanded my skill set in analytics, general business knowledge, networking, and professionalism. This position offered me the opportunity to gain experience in multiple facets of the business, and I developed a strong appreciation for wine tasting and making!

What I liked

There was a lot to like about Kate Arnold Wines. I think that the flexibility of time and scheduling is noteworthy! With adjusting to COVID employment circumstances and taking a full 15 hours at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, my boss, Jean Arnold was entirely understanding and flexible with my schedule. I think another thing to note is the culture itself. The culture at Kate Arnold Wines is fantastic! I seriously think that this may be one of the best office staffs in Athens, GA. It feels very much so like a family. We solve complex problems together and we celebrate victories as a team!

What I wish was different

Because Kate Arnold is so young in it's business model, employees have to wear many hats and you have to meet the demands of pressing tasks, even if that field of work is not necessarily your area of expertise. This can be stressful; however, it does help to sharpen your tool set and make you a more dynamic employee. At first it was tough, but very soon I became a very dynamic employee able to assist in many different facets of the business.

Advice

A piece of advice that I would offer would be for people to come in with an open mind every day. This office needs individuals that are willing to work in multiple areas to satisfy the needs of the company. With that being said, be open minded everyday with what you may be working on. One day, you may be working on a project that requires you to perform tasks that are completely foreign to you. It can be intimidating, but just know that you will get better and you will grow in the things that you learn.

Advice

Just because his company is small does not mean it is poorly run---quite the opposite! Jean provides a great, welcoming, and organized work environment. He is always eager to find out how he can improve both your experience as an employee, and the company as a whole.
