Keru

Product Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Shanghai, People's Republic of China

What I liked

I really liked the purpose of Keru. It was very meaningful for me to realize that not only was I taking part in creating social impact through our advices to our partners, I was also bringing awareness to high school students the various social issues that are prevalent in Asia and Southeast Asia.

What I wish was different

I wish I was more well-trained for my projects. Other than consulting, I also had to mentor high school students on these projects and there were some situations I felt unprepared for. For example, one of my project dealt with mental health and I was caught off guard by the fact that a couple of my students were experiencing bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression. I was not aware of the health issues and would not have been prepared to work with the students if something were to happen.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share would be to always be flexible for unexpected turns of event. My consulting projects involved traveling, adapting to different cultures, as well as being able to adjust to what was researched versus what we see when we meet our partners.
