The Knoxville Police Department consists of 14 certified officers and two civilian positions. The department's sworn staff is made up of the chief, three lieutenants, and ten officers. Patrol officers currently work 12-hour shifts. Specialty assignments within the department include:
Field training officer
Firearms instructor
Defensive Tactics Instructor
School resource officer (see below)
Taser instructor
Task force officer
Knoxville police officers are dispatched through the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
