Kura Skin

Digital Marketing Intern

June - September 2020 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Working for Kura this summer was a fantastic opportunity to improve my writing, editing, and research skills, explore my creative side, and learn a ton about the world of skincare. It was also a great chance to delve more deeply into digital marketing as a whole, from social media to email to blog posts. I left my internship with lots of new skills that I know I can take to future positions.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I loved it all!

Digital Marketing Intern

What I liked

I absolutely loved everything about my internship! Most of my internship was research-based, so I was able to learn so much about not only the skincare industry, but also how to grow as a brand overall. Though this internship was remote due to the pandemic, I never felt like I was not given enough instruction or clarity on my assignments. Kat, Kura's founder, worked very closely with me and always responded super quickly if I ever had any questions about something. It was such a pleasure to work with someone like Kat! She would always check in on me to see how I was, and I felt taken care of every step of the way.

What I wish was different

Because my internship was mainly research based to begin with, the remote structure of the internship did not really hinder me in any way. Though I would have loved to meet Kat in person, we had plenty of video calls where we could discuss projects face-to-face. There is really nothing I wish had been different!

Advice

My advice is that if you are looking for an internship where you are given many responsibilities, but also clear and helpful guidance every step of the way, interning at Kura is the best move! Additionally, since Kura Skin is still in its earlier stages, everything that you do will have a significant impact, which is definitely such a fulfilling experience.

What I liked

I learned so much from my internship at Kura Skin this summer. I really enjoyed the work environment and direct interaction with Kat, the company's Founder. Even though the internship was remote, I felt very connected. Getting to work for a startup company is such cool experience. I felt like everything I worked on was making a direct impact on the company—no busy work here. It was very satisfying researching and writing about various topics and seeing the final posted product.

What I wish was different

I am not sure that I would have changed a thing. In person is always nice, but the Kura Skin internship works very well in a remote format. I was able to learn knew skills effectively and had plenty of interaction with the company's Founder, who really invested time in making sure I learned and developed throughout the process.

Advice

I highly recommend working for Kura Skin. If you desire hands-on experience and involvement at an early-stage company, Kura Skin is the place. You will learn a lot about digital marketing and be able to contribute your skills to an amazing company.

What I liked

I worked on developing an internal tool for Kura which was super cool & fun! I really agree with the mission of the company so I felt incredibly motivated by its goal and the fact that I can be part of the growth process. Kat who is the founder of Kura worked closely with me on the project and was very accessible and helpful in guiding me through her vision and building the product together. Throughout the process, I had a lot of ownership over the final product and also learned a ton about skincare and Kat's vision for the company in the long run. Being able to finish a project that I am genuinely interested in is very empowering and it was a pleasure working with Kat and other students from my school.

What I wish was different

Due to the remote setting & team members operating on different summer schedules, it was more difficult than usual to collaborate across teams. This year's situation was very unique and not the fault of anyone. Personally, I wasn't able to stay on the project for longer and I wish there was more across the team communication.

Advice

I love the startup environment because you are making a tangible impact every day. If you feel passionate about skincare/tech/data, I think Kura is a great company to join. Be ready to learn, contribute, and build.
