Library Circulation Clerk

May - August 2018 • Lake Forest, IL

What I liked

My favorite aspect about this job was that I did the same work I usually do during the school year, but I was able to treat it as a full time job. I am also grateful that I was given the opportunity to take some days off to visit family during the middle of the summer.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. It was a wonderful experience and I am glad I got to experience it.

Advice

If you already work the circulation desk as a student worker you should be fine. The only difference between working this position during the school year and during the summer is that you will be doing a lot more shelf reading and organizing during the summer. So if you don't really like that part of the job you most likely will not enjoy working during the summer.

Administrative Computing Intern

June 2019 • Lake Forest, IL

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting my hands on and learning a new software. After getting my feet wet with the GUI, I've really enjoyed working with code to make things work with the back end development and adjustments.

What I wish was different

This was a really good learning experience for uncovering my own passions. I would have enjoyed more design aspects to the job, but true to its description, I have learned a lot about back end database administration while in this position.

Advice

To those who are trying to figure out where their passions lie, I would recommend just trying something that sounds interesting. Whether it ends up becoming your career, or just another stepping stone in finding your dream job, just take the first step.
