Legal Intern

May - August 2019 • Tallahassee, FL

What I liked

During my time at the Law Offices of Anabelle Dias, I appreciated the opportunity to engage in-person with members of the criminal justice system, conduct client intakes, research, help craft arguments and provide input when and where necessary. I enjoyed note-taking for depositions and court, engaging with client’s loved ones, and learning from the attorneys about the ins and outs of criminal defense.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been longer, so that I could be part of cases that went to trial.

Advice

Be prepared to work and to learn. Take this opportunity to learn about yourself, what you see for your life in terms of career choice. Also, develop thick skin, and remember why it is you are doing this. My experience helped solidify what career path I wanted to pursue and had I not had it, I’m unsure how things would be.

Legal Intern

January - May 2019 • Tallahassee, FL

What I liked

It was an immersive experience that really taught me the inter workings of the criminal justice system and the state court systems

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to be trained on certain office procedures so that I could have limited preventable mistakes

Advice

Study up on legalese prior to walking into the office for the first time, because once you do it’s go time and there is little to no space to ask the attorneys what a word means (or just have a legal dictionary handy at all times)

Intern

January - May 2017 • Tallahassee, FL

What I liked

My internship was very hands on and Anabelle gave all the interns the space to develop their own work and guidance to actually develop that work well.

What I wish was different

Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, my direct supervisor changed halfway through my internship which threw off the office dynamic for a little bit.

Advice

Seize every opportunity. There is so much to learn, you just have to be open to new challenges.
