This job was a great way to spend my last summer before I have to go into the work field. I love working with kids, and we played fun summer games outside that made me feel like I was a kid again too. I was able to make connections with the kids and hopefully have some impact on their life and learning. The pay was also really great and I only had to work 5 hours per day.
What I wish was different
I would have liked some more leadership with managing the kids, there were only 5 or 6 "coaches" per day that had to deal with 60+ kids at times. It can be frustrating if some of them don't listen, or difficult to figure out how to approach some of the more misbehaved campers. Angry parents were probably harder to deal with.
Advice
I would say that you get out what you put into it. Since it was it a sports camp and I hadn't played sports since high school I was able to be the coach that kids go to when they need help putting on sunscreen or a band-aid. It takes a lot of patience, but looking back it was one of the most fun summer jobs I've had. I don't think you necessarily have to get an internship every summer for the work you do to be meaningful.
