Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office

Law Clerk

June - August 2018 • Pomona, CA

What I liked

I liked how much they trusted me to do work. I wasn’t even a certified law clerk yet I was allowed to handle important documents and go to court.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been in law school so I could do more interesting things. There was only a finite amount of tasks I was allowed to do so it sometimes got monotonous, but I still appreciate their effort.

Advice

Always be professional and polite.

Law Clerk Intern

August 2017 - June 2018 • Pasadena, CA

What I liked

Everyday was a new experience, whether it be talking to detectives that were filing new cases, to interacting with deputy district attorneys about ongoing cases. Being able to spend almost an entire year working on a single homicide case, then watching the case go to trial is a very fulfilling experience. If you are looking to get an idea of working in any type of law enforcement, you will find plenty of different experts here.

What I wish was different

The beginning of the internship is hard, as you are new and can only do basic tasks such as filing, answering calls, and taking cases up to court. It is very important to be open and interact with other attorneys so that you can get more involved.

Advice

You get as much as you put in with this internship. The harder you work and the more open you are to interacting with other employees, the more you will be allowed to work on their personal projects.
