Engineering Co-Op Term 3

June 2018 • Cudahy, WI

What I liked

Great work environment. Good balance of freedom to work on projects and mentor help. Hugh learning curve. Willingness to teach interns/co-ops.

What I wish was different

More structure. Less ambiguity in terms of project priority.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions, seriously. When you run out of things to do, suggest projects yourself and ask for more.

Technical Service Co-op

July 2018 • Cudahy, WI

What I liked

Having the opportunity to have an abnormal co-op experience. This, being my first term, has been quite interesting just because the company updated their ERP system causing a massive wave of system failures, and late production. I have been involved in helping overcome this situation and have therefore been able to experience a more involved co-op term.

What I wish was different

The responsibilities that I was tasked to have did not apply as the ERP system was being updated. My time and effort was used in different problematic areas of the work space and I therefore did not have many of the common responsibilities.

Advice

Ask questions!! It's weird because I was always shy to ask questions in class and go up to a professor during office hours. At my job however, everyone is on the same playing field. There is no competition like in school. Everyone gets a job and has to do it by any means necessary. No one is competing to be the best which made it a lot easier to reach out for help.
