MACOM

Industrial Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Lowell, MA

What I liked

They have developed a very well-organized internship program, with over 25 other interns. They had many social events and workshops for the interns and invested a lot of time and energy into making our experience great. We all were able to do very impactful work, typically one main project for the summer, and never expected to just be doing busy-work. It was an amazing learning experience, both technically in the field of semiconductors and also professionally - everyone was eager to help us grow and learn as young adults.

Advice

Test Engineering

What I liked

Many interns, and an organized program including presentations of our work to the rest of the company in form of both a poster and a PowerPoint

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed having more one on one sessions with my supervisor

Advice

Try your best everyday and always ask questions!

Facilities Intern

May - August 2018 • Lowell, MA

What I liked

Great intern program focussed on networking and getting corporate experience in an international, publicly-traded company

What I wish was different

The program interns were spread across departments with only one person from HR in charge of the program, and her juggling of other things made it a little hectic. She stressed the importance of the program over the work we were doing, so clarity on that with our individual managers would have negated a lot of confusion.

Advice

Even if you know the experience may not be in what you want to do later on in life, it will grant you a new perspective on the work and give you cross-functional experiences that are applicable to other areas in which you would like to work.

Engineering and Test Intern

May - August 2018 • Ithaca, NY

What I liked

Many mentors- had a lot of help when I ran into roadblocks and many people to teach me new concepts/good practices.

What I wish was different

We had to go to headquarters, which ate up a lot of time in the schedule, and had to do a final powerpoint presentation.

Advice

Keep track of important due dates such as when presentations are due to the intern coordinator.
