About MakerGirl

MakerGirl brings STEM education to girls ages 7-10 by teaching them about 3D printing and other cutting-edge technologies. Since our founding at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014, we have taught 3,256 girls through 223 sessions. We separate ourselves from other organizations doing similar work in STEM education by focusing on 3D printing because we have found 3D printing and CAD allows girls to be both analytical and creative. We also are able to reach girls in rural areas through our #MakerGirlGoesMobile tours. Over the past two summers we have traveled over 13,000 miles to 17 different states. Our goal is to have 10 MakerGirl academies and educate 10,000 girls by 2023.

“ Working for MakerGirl has been one of the highlights of my college career. I have met amazing women and have had the opportunity to have a lot of really unique experiences (for example traveling to DC for a science expo!). I would not have received my full-time offer elsewhere if it weren't for my time at MakerGirl. Plus, working with the young girls and the 3D printers is really fun!”
