Marafiki Africa is a nonprofit organization that empowers small business owners in East Africa by bringing student volunteers to do the following:
• Teach village business owners about basic business principles
• Run workshops to improve small business practices
• Participate in community development projects such as the construction of water pipelines, water tanks, school facilities, clinics, etc.
• Join in tribal customs and celebrations
• Become Maasai warriors
• Experience the top rated safari in Africa at the end of their trip
Many of these small business owners have only a 2nd grade level of education and run something similar to a lemonade stand. Teaching them basic business principles helps them to become a success story in an environment where success is difficult.
