Marcus & Millichap

Real Estate Agent Assistant

June 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

My favorite part of working at Marcus and Millichap was the environment of support I was surrounded in. This helped me learn how to make cold/warm calls, value properties, and see how deals get done.

What I wish was different

The only part about this job that I wish was different is the start time. We are encouraged to be at our desks by 8.

Advice

Don't pass on an opportunity like this. The senior executives have been in commercial real estate for years and can help guide you in a successful career. There are also tons of young people in the SF office which makes it an encouraging environment.

What I liked

It was a great experience to understand and analyze how alternative investments have such an impact on global markets. Navigating through different location sites and portfolios was refreshing and rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to spend with everyone in the office. It was a comfortable environment with a bunch of driven, determined, hard working people.

Advice

Just do your job and stick to the basics. Have a good time and enjoy every day you have working for such a great company filled with even better people.

Market Research & Property Analysis Intern

May - July 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

Marcus & Millichap really gave me the introduction to the Commercial Real Estate industry that I needed. Day in and day out, I was enveloped in day to day operations, getting the true experience of someone who worked there full time. I felt like I walked away from that internship with more knowledge than I did when I walked in, with more confidence in what I was doing going forward.

What I wish was different

Not much, obviously it would have been awesome to get paid, but the experience I gained was invaluable. The culture inside the office was very interesting as well, very different than what I was expecting. When you walked in the door in the morning, no one said, "Good morning" or "Hello", you kind of just went to your desk and got to work.

Advice

Soak up EVERYTHING. To give an example of my experience, I was told that I could use headphones while I did my research and found leads for our brokers. But about 10 yards away from me, sat our main lease negotiator. This man would be on the phone making deals 8 hours a day, and I knew that I could learn a ton from just listening to this guy. So...that's what I did! Every other intern around me would plug their headphones in, and do what they said. But I was able to go above and beyond, learning and soaking up more in my 10 weeks than they could. This is an incredibly valuable lesson!

I loved the environment of the company. Everyone works together even though commercial real estate is really your own business.

I wish I got to stay on site working longer rather than remotely.

It’s a very professional setting yet with relaxed relationships between other employees. Take your time and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
