The Museum’s collection of several thousand objects ranges from antiquities to contemporary art and includes distinguished collections of Asian art, photography, 19th-century European and American sculpture, and contemporary prints.
MuseumWorks, a collaboration with the Middlebury College Center for Careers & Internships, is an intensive 8-week paid summer cohort internship program introducing Middlebury College students to the dynamic and multifaceted professional world of museums, libraries, and archives through a combination of internship placements in local cultural institutions, professional development, field trips, career conversations with seasoned museum and library professionals, and collaboration on an exhibition project.
Cohort internship programs intentionally combine several well-accepted ‘high-impact practices’ that result in deeper learning and greater engagement. In addition to gaining real-world experience and developing professional competencies, students in cohort programs are exposed to more content, participate in more and varied experiences, gain diverse perspectives, and connect more ideas and concepts.
With MuseumWorks, the students are gaining professional experience at the same time they are witnessing the vital role that cultural institutions play in their communities.
