Ticket Sales and Service Intern

What I liked

There was always something different every day I went. Plus it was a super fun environment to be apart of.

What I wish was different

Sales is such a difficult industry to work in that it kind of pushed me away from making this a full time position. I enjoyed what I did but I couldn't see myself working there post graduation.

Advice

Don't just stick in your own department. Venture out and get to know people from every department. You never know who might help you get a job.

Junior Sales Associate

What I liked

I loved that I was provided the opportunity to get REAL hands on experience as a sales associates. As a college student who was only working there for the summer I wasn’t treated any different than typical full tome employee. I valued that organization takes pride in fluidity throughout the departments and has a work hard play hard environment.

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing! The experience was kore than I could have ever hoped it would be.

Advice

I would advise whoever is interested to be open minded about being on your own in the city. I did not take my car with me to Milwuakee, and I made sure I made new friends outside of the office. This way, I was able to gain new perspectives from those who grew up there, or even relocated for a job opportunity like myself but in another industry.

Jr. Sales Associate

What I liked

I loved the energy and the types of people who work in inside sales for the sports industry. It was definitely a dream, to be able to work under extraordinary leadership at the Milwaukee Bucks. I really enjoyed learning many skills and gaining the abilities to be able to cross-sell across a variety of Milwaukee Bucks offerings. As a member of the very first Jr. Sales Associate team, we were included in weekly sales meetings and training so that we can seek advice and implement new approaches moving forward. We were also included in all staff meetings where we could here from the President and the heads of every departments at the Milwaukee Bucks. I love that I was granted the opportunity to experience what it would be like as a sales professional in the sports industry.

What I wish was different

There is nothing that I wish had been different besides the pay. However, we also earned commission and I gained a great deal of experience from my time at the Bucks as well as amazing life-long connections.

Advice

During this experience, we were challenged to prove that we were able to put ourselves in the mindset of a full-time Sales Associate. Be open to challenges so you can put your best foot forward and go the extra miles-especially in sales which follows of reward like commission. My time at the Bucks showed me that I love the competitive nature of working in sales for the sports industry and it motivated me to work 100x harder than anyone around me. Don't be afraid to fail, you will learn from it.

For anyone looking for an internship like this, dive in and accept all the training and advice that is thrown your way in a short time span.

Live Entertainment and Programming Intern

What I liked

I loved the team environment, everyone there likes to have fun and work in a fast paced setting. The co-workers became good friends, and that was something I cherished with the Bucks.

What I wish was different

Honestly nothing, aside from wishing we had made it to the finals!

Advice

Always be open to more than one opportunity. Soak everything in, and learn different aspects of the business. It helps for more opportunities upon graduation, or further down in your career.

What I liked

I loved being around all of the NBA guys. But, what was more important to me was that I had the chance to experience what it would be like to handle myself within a business environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I spent more time working out with the guys! I only spent about 2 weeks total in the practice facility with the guys.

Advice

Always keep your eyes and ears open. Never be scared to ask questions! No question is too dumb.

Ask as many questions you can and make sure to reach out to others in different fields to learn as much as you can. I talked to and worked with people in all different departments, such as Fan Experience, Video, HR, Tickets, etc.

Graphic Design Intern

What I liked

11/10 Experience. Everything was so awesome and rewarding. The culture in the office is inspiring and energizing. There is about 150 employees including interns, and everyone knows each other's names. Everyone was very welcoming, and even the executives made you feel like their equal and your role was just as important and vital to the success of the company. Besides the social environment within the office, the actual physical office space was in a really great location in Schlitz Park. They have a pinball machine in the break room, a popcorn machine for afternoon snacks, 2 GIANT bobbleheads in the lobby and employees are encouraged to bring in their dogs to the office for the day. Occasionally you would see a player, coach or other important people throughout the office who again, were always warm and welcoming. The projects were rewarding to work on due to being able to see them being put to use around the office, internet and throughout Milwaukee and Wisconsin. We had paid volunDeering opportunities every week as well as lunches with the executives to learn more about their roles in the company and received advice from them. They were open to questions about anything, work related or personal. Employees receive lots of free stuff including tickets to events, Bucks swag and tours with other large and successful Milwaukee companies.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been involved in more meetings with higher ups but realize that its not always easy nor feasible when the schedule is so busy.

Advice

While it's sometimes stressful, networking really IS so important in getting a job. Communication with your team is very crucial to being successful. The sports industry is a lot of fun and very high energy. You get what you give in terms of effort. Do not hesitate to ask questions to anyone ever, they want to help you help them. Make efforts to develop connections with higher ups. Ask to participate in everything you can, ask teams outside of your own department to join in with them for a day. Shadow people and ask to sit in on meetings. Be knowledgeable about the company you're working within. Study the industry and the people and current events in it. Be overly prepared and always ask for more responsibility if you think you can handle it.
