About Minnesota Historical Society

We're part of Minnesota's rich history. Since 1849, we've grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious historical societies in the country. We play an important role in our state's historic preservation, education, and tourism, and provide the public with award-winning programs, exhibitions, and events.

The Minnesota Historical Society is a private nonprofit committed to preserving the state's past, sharing our state's stories, and connecting people with history through exhibits, libraries and collections, 26 historic sites and museums, publishing, grants, and more.
Not a history major? Positions are available for many majors. Explore internships for undergraduates and graduates in archaeology, architecture, design, education, human resources, IT, museum studies, nonprofit administration, social media, and much, much more!

The Minnesota Historical Society's College Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for advanced undergraduate and graduate students to work in a cultural organization while building career credentials. We offer internships in summer, fall, and spring semesters. Each semester, we have a number of specific positions posted on our website, which change from semester to semester. Each position has its own roles and responsibilities, as well as specific application requirements. You do NOT need to be a history major to apply! All MNHS internships are paid. Internships are available for current graduate and undergraduate students, and recent graduates can apply up to one year after graduation.

We have three semesters of interns each year, in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Look for our open application on our website, in October, March, and July to apply!

“There was a lot of freedom to work on projects that interested me. While I was still contributing to the overall mission of the Historical Society and the work that the Oral History office needed done, I could budget my time in ways that I found most engaging. ”
