Missoula Paddleheads Professional Baseball

Marketing Intern

May - August 2021 • Missoula, MT

What I liked

I really enjoyed the involvement I had within the organization, even as an intern. I was able to be apart of entire front office meetings and was able to contribute to the agenda with sharing what I was working on throughout the summer and target things that needed to be improved. The location, although it may seem daunting to go to somewhere like Montana, was pretty unique and a fun environment. Housing was not an issue because this particular internship provided an apartment that they covered expenses for.

What I wish was different

There wasn't much that I wish had been different, I would highly recommend anyone from Baldwin Wallace university with a sport management major to apply to any of the positions offered with the Missoula PaddleHeads. This internship was incredibly fun and the front office I directly worked for was well organized and had a successful culture on and off the field.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this is understand that if you are doing a minor league baseball internship it can be long and difficult hours. Your work schedule will generally revolve around when the team is playing home or away. Away series could be anywhere from 3-9 games and the work hours during that would generally be 9am-5pm and no work on weekends. If the team is home it could be for a 3-9 game homestand and you will be expected to work every day they have a game, regardless of weekend, generally from 11am-11pm. The environment is constantly changing, and at least with this organization I could do my work at the stadium offices or at our front office in downtown Missoula any day. This helped break up the monotony of an office job and it also allowed me to get some field work at the stadium and throughout the game. It is completely do able to do a baseball internship over the summer and I would recommend it. But understand some weeks could be very draining mentally and physically. Even then though, a long week is met with an away stint for about the same time and a good organization like the PaddleHeads offers "no work days or half-days" to recuperate and not face burnout.
