Undergraduate Research Assistant

June - August 2018 • Bozeman, MT

What I liked

The work was incredibly interesting, and I appreciated having the chance to work with graduate students on a real project. My mentors were supportive and the research cohort was friendly. Campus resources were excellent - especially the food!

What I wish was different

I was the only one working with my mentor, and I would work best in groups. I think I would have enjoyed the work more and been more productive if I had peers to work with on my project.

Advice

Research experience is valuable, even if you don't feel especially productive. It's difficult to set up your own schedule and work on your own time, so be kind to yourself. Ask for help setting up a routine, check in often with your mentors, and have fun learning - the learning is just as important as the work.
