Monumental Sports & Entertainment

Events Intern

June - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

This company is very unified and all the departments work closely together. It helps that even though it is a big company everyone is on the same page.

What I wish was different

More hours or time to shadow different departments.

Advice

Writing skills are very useful, and timeliness is important when waiting for other people to send you work to complete by a deadline. Make sure to plan ahead

Franchise Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I really enjoyed working in a professional sports environment for the first time. The people in my department were awesome to work with and really taught me a lot over the course of the summer. I was able to work in multiple areas including sales, service, operations, and marketing and this allowed me to try a lot of different things.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to get more direct sales experience (making outbound sales calls). Unfortunately, due to corporate policy for interns I was not able to do this. Other than that I have no complaints!

Advice

Take advantage of your opportunities! If you're boss gives you time to meet with other people in the company in other departments do it! It is a great chance to network and learn what other people do. Also give your best effort every day. Your hard work will get noticed and it will make people want to help you in your career.

Social and Digital Media Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The people who worked at the company overall were amazing to work with. Everyone was very friendly and driven. I have been a DC sports fan all my life, so working at company which owns teams like the wizards and capitals was truly a blessing. Being able to help run social media and do research on players was very fulfilling and gave a me a true real world work experience. I also was able to work with Wizards District Gaming, which is a new team to the NBA2KLeague.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to sample working in other departments. I absolutely loved working in the social media aspect, but also would have enjoyed seeing what it's like to work in other fields within the organization.

Advice

I would say to anyone interested in working within the sports world, this was an amazing experience. Try to apply to as many internships as possible, and look for opportunities in multiple professional sports leagues.
