I really enjoyed the intimate experience of working at mtheory's LA location because of the close-knit working environment (their office is a former 4-story residential space) that allowed me to be directly in contact with everyone from my site supervisor to senior members of their team in all departments. Their capacity for interns (3 is the max at this location) also made the experience incredible resourceful as there was a lot of 1-on-1 time to learn about their methods of operation and ask as many questions as needed. I was simultaneously working as a manger for a promising artist (as I still am) and there was incredible synergy between this experience at mtheory and application to my current full-time position as a music manager. The complete understanding of how data is integral to an artist's success and the relationships I built with the other interns & staff have proved to prepare me for life after graduation and I'm incredibly grateful for the rare opportunity I was given.
What I wish was different
Due to their team size being small in this location (maybe 10-14 people) it felt like each intern was limited to their specific role (digital or production or management) as there wasn't enough time to expose each intern to all the departments. As a manger I think it could have been beneficial to take part in some of the management interns responsibilities to see how their management services caters to their clients but at the same time I felt like digital was really where the magic of that process began.
Advice
If you have any desire to work on the business side of the music industry I would highly recommend doing some research into mtheory. The days of records being sold physically in stores are basically over and FM radio is slowly declining. Being able to learn how to interpret streaming data and creating real life scenarios based off that information is in my opinion one of the most important roles of being a manger in the industry today as managers are becoming ever more important in helping an artist really stand out.

What I liked
How close all of the teams worked together. Daily interaction with everyone in the company made me feel part of the company as opposed to part of a given team
What I wish was different
Obviously, I wish COVID hadn't forced me to work from home, as being in the office was one of the major initial benefits of the internship
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone on the team is super insightful and willing to help
