Nahant Marsh Education Center

Biology Research Intern

June - August 2018 • Davenport, IA

What I liked

Nahant Marsh allowed me to create and carry out my own independent research over the summer. My final research project looked at the effect goat grazing had on the removal of invasive species at the marsh. In addition to that, I participated in their on going turtle research where I got to trap, mark, and release a variety of different turtle species.

What I wish was different

I wish this internship would have been a paid. The grant for the internship is through the LSAMP IINSPIRE program, so if you are a minority in the field of science you can get paid through the grant! Even though I wasn't able to be paid, Augie Choice helped me out with my rent, gas, and grocery budget for the summer.

Advice

This internship is an amazing and unique experience, especially since you get to create your own research project. I would advise you to go into it with some ideas and to think out side of the box to make it extra fun and interesting! Also, always have bug spray on hand and make sure you know what poison ivy looks like!
