What I liked

The atmosphere, people and every other Friday off.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been more hands on experience that wasn't sitting at a desk.

It is different from any other engineering job you might have. The atmosphere is relaxed and everyone wants to help you succeed. Make sure to talk to as many people as possible to hear about everyone's experiences.

Supply Chain Data Analyst

June - August 2019 • La Cañada Flintridge, CA

What I liked

There was not a single moment during my time at JPL that I was treated like the typical intern. Every person respected my input and gave me endless opportunities to shadow and learn from amazing business men and women.

What I wish was different

I wish I lived closer because the commute in the morning and late afternoons was taxing. However, my work experience every day offset this downside.

Advice

I knew nothing about space, astronomy, or even aerospace. I was nervous going in not having much background knowledge. However, my nervousness did not last long. I was surprised to meet people who have spent 30+ years at JPL and started off not knowing anything about space either. I grew a passion for the environment and research JPL and NASA conducts after just two months because it was a community that emphasized learning and understanding.
