Camp Counselor/ Wrangler/ Instructor in Training

What I liked

I got to work directly in the field that I am studying (Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies) with an organization with a great reputation and high industry standards. The work was hard, but it was fun and rewarding. It was great getting to work with a team of people who are professional and share the goal of serving the participants and providing the highest possible safety standards in all activities.

What I wish was different

There were weeks with more work than others. Some weeks were very busy, and it was easy to feel burnt out quickly. The slower weeks were sometimes difficult because of the smaller paycheck.

Advice

Be willing to work hard and take honest, constructive criticism along the way. If you're willing to take advice and use it, you will grow and become a better asset to whoever you are working for. Be a team player and be ready to ask for help, and jump for opportunities to help your team.

What I liked

I loved working with and forming relationships with all my campers. I worked with kids and young adults with disabilities so I really enjoyed showing them everything they are capable of. I enjoyed working with all the families of our campers and making sure they have everything they need. Finally, I loved working with all of the other amazing counselors everyday.
