Everyone involved was great, willing to mentor you if you needed it, and above all were open to sharing their experience with you.
What I wish was different
I enjoyed everything about this internship, from the initial workshop teaching you about the different aspect of High Performance Computing, to the research work done and the student paper produced from your work. There's nothing that I'd change from this experience.
Advice
For the internship you get to work for a year on a project of your, or your mentor's choice, with the Blue Waters Supercomputer. However, it's best if you can have a project started beforehand as starting from scratch made me feel that I spent too much time debugging and not nearly enough on actual computing (even if I did manage to use up all my computing allowance).

What I liked
The freedom given to explore your interests and independently learn things. The projects you get paired up with are working on interesting, groundbreaking work.
What I wish was different
Better mentorship program designed to increase the amount of interaction with the mentor.
Advice
Try to talk to your team to see if you can get a full time position.
