What I liked

It was organized very well around intern development. There were classes available to take, different trainings we got to do, and a good number of conferences in the DC area that we had the option to attend. In general, I think my supervisor, and the other scientists that I worked with, were great, and very open to talking not just about our project but also more generally about what their career path was like, and about my goals and interests. The work itself was interesting, and I was given a good amount of freedom to self-define what I wanted to do. Also, other people at the Consortium were very available to talk even if I wasn't on their project, which made it easier to get a wider range of experiences.

What I wish was different

I worked out of the Center for the Advanced Study of Language, and the internship was a collaboration between the two research centers. My specific location was a bit far from the main building, but it was very nice to have my own dedicated desk, and everyone who was working on the same projects as me was in my building.

Advice

Do the enrichment programs, and tell your supervisor what you want to learn and get out of the summer -- they're very receptive!
