I like that NEJA uses on the job training and puts a lot of trust in their volunteers. You are immediately part of the team and not viewed as less competent than anyone.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more structure in the organization and that they had a couple more full-time volunteers to really help lead the way.
Advice
I would advise future volunteers to set firm time commitments early on. Since the organization is in such a need of volunteers, they can end up asking you to do more than you have time for.
