National Food Group

Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Novi, MI

What I liked

National Food Group (NFG) included me in an incredibly diverse and inclusive working environment, I was able to get a wide variety of perspectives from different backgrounds. I really enjoyed being able to work within a small-mid sized company because I got to develop cross functionally, invaluable for a developing student/young business professional! No day is the same, meeting with the CEO, attending a food cutting, working on product development with account managers..loved it all.

What I wish was different

NFG did not have an established "Intern Program" so I was relying on a full-time hire on-boarding and reaching out to different employees to answer some of the gaps in my training (very receptive and willing to help!). I would have liked to see a little more rigidity to an intern-geared program.

Advice

It is interesting to see the behind-the-scene perspective of the food distribution/service industry, make the most of the learning opportunities available. Schedule meetings, early and often, with anyone you can-CEO, warehouse team, account managers, HR, etc. The more you learn the more involved you are with the company and its goods/services and you'll have more fun at work!
