My internship with the National Restaurant Association gave me the opportunity to attend events/hearings, study policy, and aid the policy and government affairs teams. These experiences allowed me to develop a better understanding of lobbying and the role it plays in Washington. I came away this summer feeling politically literate and with a strong foundation of political experience.
What I wish was different
At times it was difficult being the only intern in the office, but looking back I am glad that I was. It forced me to learn quickly, be organized, and multitask.
Advice
The first few weeks will feel overwhelming, but the NRA is full of great people who are eager to help. Ask questions, work hard and you will have a very successful and fulfilling internship experience.
