Head nursing team advisor

June - August 2019 • New Haven, CT

What I liked

It was an opportunity to build character and gain necessary leadership skill for my future in nursing. The summer focused on educating high school students about nursing as a career. Education is a very important skill as a nurse, and I like show I could gain this skill outside of a clinical or hospital setting.

What I wish was different

I honestly had the best summer of my life! The organization pays for your transportation, room, and board. The stipend was on top of all this. I cannot think of anything I would change.

Advice

I would say that it is really important to make time and a space for yourself to relax a little everyday. The days are long with a lot of activities, but it is a blast.

Assistant Team Advisor

July - August 2019 • Berkeley, CA

What I wish was different

The day is incredibly busy, so it's hard to find one-on-one time with each student.

Advice

What I liked

I liked the opportunity to work with high school students in an engaged and creative education setting. It was extremely rewarding to see their growth in knowledge, professionalism, and leadership, and in some ways I got the chance to grow my own strengths too.

What I wish was different

I wish that the job could have taken place a little closer to home. The days were long, and I didn't have a chance to talk to my friends and family very often.

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

NSLC is the most rewarding program that I have been part of during my time in college. This job allows college students to take on mentorship roles and be teachers to high school students while also fostering a sense of community within a professional, leadership-driven setting. The other staff member are also in college and we come from all across the nation. Learning about other's experiences and exploring life outside of Baylor is rewarding and refreshing when coming back to campus. The entire program is engaging for the duration of the summer and with the variety of sub-programs to chose from, NSLC is versatile for any major.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Sleep when you can! There is not a lot of down-time and you are constantly working and "on." When you get a break, take it!

What I liked

I loved being able to see a different side of the NSLC as I got to see the experience from the perspective of being on staff as opposed to being a student. It was amazing to get to know people from all around the country and the world and just helping them learn hands-on about their passions. The staff was also so welcoming and I loved being a part of the family.

What I wish was different

I just wish that I was there for a longer time, being there was definitely the best part of my summer.
