What I liked
There were 3D printing machines, machine shops, etc. Interns are given much freedom to complete their projects in any way they see most fit. There's a ton of cool stuff, and you have the freedom to try out just about anything you want. Just have an interest, and talk to the intern coordinators. It's really a great place for the engineer who likes having access to the navy's big expensive toys.
What I wish was different
Way too much regulation for my taste. Ordering materials off Amazon can take anywhere from 1-6 months. Most computers have virtually all ways of transferring data blocked, so you don't steal information. If you want to get work done swiftly, don't work here.
Advice
If you want a comfortable, good paying, secure job, work here. If you're the type of person that wants to push out a product, go somewhere else. If you're an intern, it's a great place to gain experience. Getting your interim clearance, which is required to be on the base, will help you gain employment anywhere in the defense industry. Just like everything else, you get out of the experience what you put into it.
