I loved being able to work directly with the orphaned/injured wildlife, and seeing them grow up and become healthy enough for release!
What I wish was different
I wish the management was a little more friendly and understanding.

What I liked
I learned so much about native Nebraska Wildlife and how to care for them. I didn’t realize this going in but I also learned about administering medicine to a lot of animals such as raccoons, rabbits, woodchucks, geese and a wide variety of song birds.
What I wish was different
I lived in Lincoln so it was about an hour drive to get to Fort Calhoun and back. However, I knew about the commute from the beginning so I was prepared.
Advice
Go in with an open mind and be prepared to do a lot of dirty work. Rehabilitating wildlife can take a lot out of you but it’s oh so rewarding!
