Neighborhood Resource Center of Greater Fulton

Administrative Assistant

August 2018 - March 2020 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

The people. The work. The environment. What wasn't there to like? I started as a Writing Instructor, but I stayed because of their mission. A nonprofit in a developing neighborhood that offered many resources from jobfinding to community gardening classes, and even an after-school-time program, all in the cozy confines of a remodeled postal office. Their faces are bright and their hearts are right, always welcoming.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a proper good-bye. Following the COVID response and institutions closing down suddenly, I didn't get to return one weekend, and that was pretty much that. I've been meaning to go back sometime and volunteer, but I'm not sure how they're operating with corona going on and everything.

Advice

If you're gonna be there, make sure it's because you want to be there. If you've got an open heart, they'll treat you so.
