Business Insights and Analytics Intern

June - August 2022 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

The internship program is as much about professional development (e.g., LinkedIn and resume workshops) as it is about the project itself. The internship coordinator was brilliant and did a great job making everything run smoothly. Despite being an intern, management and other analysts treated me like I was a full-time employee and I really appreciated that. I learned a ton about aviation, industry jobs, and myself in just 10 weeks. Basically: The internship program is a cohesive experience rather than just a way for the company to cheaply complete backlog jobs.

What I wish was different

I wish the program was longer—10 weeks is not enough time for the project, events, and onboarding (for such a complex business).

Advice

Talk to everyone. Meet with your managers and their managers. Glean wisdom from everyone who will share. Even if this isn't your end destination, you will find a supportive network if you put yourself out there.

Advice

Surround yourself with people in all types of departments. You may learn that you are passionate about more than just the department you are in.

What I liked

Everything. The company was a great place to apply my skills and learn more about what it means to be an aviation enthusiast in addition to being on the frontier of private aviation.

What I wish was different

I wish I had applied a year earlier.

Advice

The journey of a million miles begins with a step. Being the first to venture into private aviation, and consistently increasing the brand quality has kept them the best in what they do. Keep learning, keep innovating, and someday it will pay off! An incredible company. I would work for them again.

What I liked

I was pretty nervous about working in an office environment for the first time, but everyone I interacted with was kind and helpful. I appreciated the experience of working with a team that respected and supported each other. The internship provided me a foundation of positives to look for in future jobs and office environments. The internship program did a good job of exposing us to every facet of the company through weekly meetings with different department heads and other company leaders. They showed that every department and function was important to the continued success of the overall company. We were also assigned mentors to help guide us through the program and to answer any questions we had, such as professional development advice.

What I wish was different

I think this was the first time some of the managers had interns and it was a learning process for everyone. It would be helpful for the managers to have 1-3 possible projects laid out with defined end goals before the program starts.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for an extension if it works for your class schedule. Give it about halfway through the program for your team to get to know you and your work style. Then talk to your manager about your future plans and wanting to stay on to support your team. I got a two-month extension on my internship and then converted over to a part time student position. This would have never happened if I didn't ask and now I'm gaining more great experience in my field which will really help my future career.
