New Line Structures

Project engineer intern

August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

New Line believes in giving their interns true work experience. Starting on the first day interns are immersed with the project team and are working on the project.

What I wish was different

There was a little more overlap with other interns so one could learn from them.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, reach out for help, and look for opportunities to learn something new. There’s always work to be done, if the day is slow ask your PE or PM if there’s something they need done.

Structural Project Engineer Intern

May - September 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

One thing I loved about working with New Line was that performance was always rewarded. As I got better and better with helping out my fellow Project Engineers and Project Managers with tasks, I was given more responsibility to the point where I was eventually able to be directly coordinating with the Design Team and Subcontractors for certain items.

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish had been different would be the opportunity to work on multiple projects in a given term. Although i thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Terminal Warehouse, I would have loved to spend time at some of the other projects that New Line Structures was building as well.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would give to any incoming interns is to always take notes. In the beginning, you will be thrown with a lot of tasks that require full knowledge of the processes and procedures. Taking notes when you are being taught these procedures is extremely important since you will definitely need to refer to them once you first start out. In addition to that, I would also advise that whenever you see something wrong or out of place, fix it even if you didn’t make the error. Construction moves so fast and people sometimes slip up, so it’s extremely important to help the team as a whole by making sure everyone’s on the same page.
