Everything about this internship was amazing! I got to do real, hands-on work for the station and the entire internship program was extremely involved. There were lunch and learns every week where we used our lunch break to learn a different aspect of the company from different employees. There were also opportunities to learn about other parts of the company besides just the department that I was in.

Newsroom Intern
June - July 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed being able to fully immerse myself in New York politics. This challenged me not only in reporting about politics in general, but becoming familiar with the politics of a state that I had never been to. I enjoyed the atmosphere of being a part of WNYC Radio in general because of how highly qualified the journalists are. The intern coordinators did a great job of connecting interns with each other through weekly catered lunches with a learning component (networking, applying for jobs, etc.) and outside WNYC events. I also enjoyed able to contribute to a podcast and be a part of the lengthy but rewarding process.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have had more opportunities to get more substantial clips. A lot of the work I produced was for newscast, which can't be really used for a clip since it's on air one and not accessible online.
Advice
Don't be shy about talking to as many of the reporters as possible. They're very experienced and more than happy to teach you.
