Next Step Ministries

Media Tech

May - August 2018 • Crownpoint, NM

What I liked

I LOVED my summer in New Mexico! I got to radically and humbly serve alongside such genuine, generous, and open people. God was so ever-present and taught me so many amazing things about construction work, media, life, and my relationship with Him. I highly recommend a Next Step summer!!

Worship Intern

May - August 2018 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I learned a lot about ministry in general as well as worship ministry that I could only have learned while just doing it for a whole summer. I loved working with an amazing staff team and seeing the Lord move in crazy ways.

What I wish was different

It is a really difficult summer as well, because you are doing ministry 24/7. I wish that we were able to sleep and rest more.

Advice

Prayer before and during (and after) the summer is so important! Be praying for unity on your team and for God to move in crazy ways among your students!

What I liked

I love the ministry and the full-time staff, as well as the opportunity to physically serve and form relationships with the community.

What I wish was different

Nothing, my experience was wonderful.

Advice

Ask for help when you need to and remind yourself why you're there often.

Team Leader

May - August 2018 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to meet so many people from different backgrounds. It was an honor to get to work alongside 14 non-profit organizations and 6 homeowners. In addition, new groups came in each week which made each week new and exciting.

Community Project Coordinator/Worship Team Member

May - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

The location and the people were amazing. My two summers with Next Step were truly life-changing. I got the opportunity to work with hundreds of people from countless different cultures. Even though there were many difficult situations, I always felt like I grew personally from them. In addition, I certainly grew in my leadership capabilities.

What I wish was different

Our time could have been better organized. We had very little personal time - we lived on the worksite - and as a result my team was always exhausted and had next to no energy after the work day ended. We also didn't have any days off. This isn't sustainable for three months.

Advice

Only apply for this position if you are VERY hard worker, can handle difficult and uncertain situations, and are devoted to this type of work. This was one of the most difficult, but also most rewarding, experiences I've ever had.
