NJM

Data Analytics Intern

May - August 2019 • West Trenton, NJ

What I liked

The people are very pleasant to be around. Even if the commute is a little far, I never dreaded going into work.

What I wish was different

I honestly had a really good time, I wish I had connected with some of my fellow interns more.

Advice

Everybody is very nice, but the company is a little older as insurance companies are. So it gives you an opportunity to stand out and see what new skills you do or don’t have to offer. Really good opportunity to learn and grow as an individual but also with a team.

I loved the combination of independent and team work required for the job. I also had fun creating and interpreting analytics.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I would not change anything.

Advice

Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and present in front of leadership.

IT Intern

May 2018 • Trenton, NJ

What I liked

The work I was doing is actual work that is directly needed by the company, it wasn't just busy work.

What I wish was different

Clearer guidelines as to what was wanted from our work, we only ended up doing about half the job and had to kept adding more things until it was completely different than we thought.

Advice

Real job experience will do a lot for your confidence and help clear things up about your future, which is exactly what this did for me

IT Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work environment at NJM. Every is motivated and caring, and the department really treated me like I was part of the team. I also enjoyed the projects. The position stretched and pushed me to do more than I thought I was capable of. I got to take some of the computer science concepts I've learned in school and apply them to a real world situation, and even learn many new skills along the way. It's one thing to pass a school project, but quite another to work on a project and see the company approve it and use it.

Advice

There's never an end to learning, especially in the computer science field. Whether it's in an internship or in a future job, the technological industry is so vast and always constantly changing that you should always be prepared to keep on learning, only this time it's not learning to prepare for exams but to contribute to the workplace.
