Nanny

July 2017 - August 2018 • Wilsonville, OR

What I liked

It taught me a lot about myself as a person as well as how to be in charge and take care of children.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more time to nanny for the family.

Advice

Always do nannying early in life before you start your career. It teaches you so much and is highly rewarding.

Student

July 2018 • Corvallis, OR

What I liked

I enjoy the process of research in general: learning new subjects, refining knowledge of subjects I'm familiar with, and the application of new and familiar knowledge to a project.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to have someone to bounce ideas around with. I enjoy the freedom of working alone, but there's something to be said for the camaraderie of exchanging knowledge and/or collaborating with someone else.

Advice

Always question every result you get on a research project. Never assume your result is correct until you've proven it's correct.

Student Researchers

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I liked being able to speak with other scholars about my research in informal settings.

What I wish was different

I wish the program had more instruction on research writing.

Advice

I would make sure to take the time to get to know other students who are doing summer research. It's fun to talk about what motivates us to do our work when we could be on vacation!

Volunteer

June - August 2018 • Albany, GA

What I liked

I got to build relationships with the nurses, staff, and residents.

What I wish was different

Everything was fine. The events were fun to help out at and attend, and the staff were very kind. Most of the residents were fun to talk to, also.

Advice

Sometimes the residents may be mean and insult you, but the nurses experience these moments all the time. Their advice is to ignore it and just continue doing your task. Most of the residents are nice and appreciate you.
