However, the favorite part of my work was being able to design graphics for NCSEA’s social
media accounts and my final report. Given my passion in visual scientific communication, I love
creating infographics, icons, and publication layouts, and this fellowship presented an optimal
environment for me to build and put my skills to practice. It was an amazing experience learning
design directly from Samantha, NCSEA’s graphic designer. I felt trusted and valued when the
Communications Team appointed me to pick up her tasks while she went on her 3-week
Sabbatical, which allowed me to really take ownership of my work and hit the ground running
with several design projects.
What I wish was different
I wish it were in person. I wish the meetings were more organized (each with an agenda and not just meeting to meet).
Ask where you can help and take initiative! There's always work to do if you keep your eyes open. This will give you some unique highlights on your resume:)
