OR Support Tech II

July 2018 • Cumming, GA

What I liked

It's a great experience for anyone looking into the medical field. A lot of exposure to surgeries and patient care. The other techs are helpful teachers, and the nurses and biomeds are friendly and always willing to answer questions you may have.

Anesthesia Tech Intern

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I loved getting so much exposure to the anesthesia world. I learned about all the basic tools an anesthetist uses in a case, as well as got to spend down time in the operating room.

What I wish was different

They sent us to a lot of different areas that didn’t have much to see. It would have been better if we could rotate days so that we could spend longer in the busy areas rather than making all the interns being at the hospital on the same day and sending us to slower areas.

Advice

Learn as much as you can! You are allowed to just be on your phone I’m down time, but this is an amazing opportunity to see tons of different surgeries.

Volunteer

May 2019 • Canton, GA

What I liked

At Northside Cherokee Hospital, I loved how friendly the staff was and how easy they made the volunteering process. They got back to me quickly and worked with me to set a volunteer schedule that worked best for me. While I was shadowing my physical therapist, I learned so much from her and from the variety of experiences I had while I was there.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to shadow for more hours. Since this setting offered such a wide variety of experiences, I believe I would have gained more from my shadowing if I had the opportunity to get in a few more hours.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to be sure to have this experience! It was a wonderful opportunity that gave me so much insight into this type of physical therapy setting. I strongly recommend Northside Cherokee Hospital as the best acute care hospital setting to get in your shadowing hours and learn a lot about the field.

Nurse Extern

June 2018 • Cumming, GA

What I liked

I liked being able to experience different roles of nursing and increasing my experience level

What I wish was different

The only qual I had was that it was not really bedside care. More outpatient based

Advice

Having an internship opens so many windows of opportunity for nursing students. You can get references within your field of work and a foot in with residency programs at the hospital you intern at

PCT

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

I think it is very important for nursing students to get more experience over summer break working as a PCT or externship before graduating! It will put you ahead of other nurses just graduating after you graduate!
