Student Office Assistant- Housing

August 2018 • Rochester, MI

What I liked

I love the strong community. My co-workers at Oakland have become my best friends in college. I enjoy talking to a variety of people, whether that is students, professional staff members, or parents. The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that I could help a student with whatever Housing questions they needed answered. Their experience at Oakland should be a great one, and I hope that I can contribute to some of that experience.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Network with as many people as you can, especially if you plan to work at a university as a professional.

Communication and Social Media Intern

August 2018 - April 2019 • Auburn Hills, MI

What I liked

The environment and the work dynamic amongst partnering offices and individuals made the work flow fresh and engaging! I loved working for Career Services because the internship supervisors allow you the freedom to make decisions for your position on your own, with their help of course. This lead me to discovering and developing more of my own skills and interests within my time there!

What I wish was different

While the independence was attractive and overall helpful, it was challenging to progress outside of my comfort zone. It would have benefited me to have a bit more suggestion and aid in trying new strategies.

Advice

Make the most of it! This office specializes in student growth, all you have to do is apply yourself and show what you can do.
