OBG Part of Ramboll

Co-op 2 Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

I loved the people who worked there/for whom I worked. I enjoyed the environmental focus, and refined my skills technically and personally.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more variety in my project experience.

Advice

I would advise people to take on more work than they might give you. Always be working during working hours (except for meals), and be firm in your requests (time off, work from home). Build confidence, as it is a time when your risk-taking is pretty safe (if you don't get a return offer, it's not as bad as being fired when you have dependents, for example).

Mechanical Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Liverpool, NY

What I liked

It was a very welcoming environment with very knowledgable engineers to learn from. I was able to immediately start working on an actual engineering project that was implemented within the company. It was great to feel like I was making an impact while also growing my network.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to spend a little more time at OBG so I could continue working on a larger project. It was difficult to find a project that was appropriately sized for the time period.

Advice

Make as many connections as you can!

Operating AutoCAD Electrical

May - August 2017 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

I was given an opportunity without having a previous engineering experiences. I liked how everyone wanted to help me at my work place. I never not had anything to not do. I always reached out to ask for more work, which gave me more opportunities to learn and expand my knowledge in engineering field.

What I wish was different

I wish they had given me my personal project to do. More hands on as well.

Advice

I would say that reaching out for help when needed is the best way to learn. Try connecting yourself with your boss and co-workers, they will always want to help you and at times they will take you out to eat as well. I would also like to advise to reach for more work when you finish your portion of the work, because this shows that you really want to be there and it will also build your experience.
