The opportunity to get a behind the scenes view of the work that goes on in a Congressional office is a once in a lifetime experience. It drastically clarified for me the role that I wish to seek in a post-graduate experience.
What I wish was different
I simply wish i had been able to experience everything for longer. I had a few opportunities to attend briefings in the House committees, being able to attend more of those would be phenomenal.
Advice
There is a lot of busy work in the office that may be tedious but is still absolutely essential to the running of the office. If you do these well, you will slowly be given more and more serious work. You have to pay your dues.
