As a Press Fellow, I worked closely with the communications team made between both the Charlotte and D.C. offices. I enjoyed learning the methods behind the messaging from the Congresswoman, and appreciated the experience I got at planning a district events communication strategy. Before the summer was over, I had even drafted a speech for the Congresswoman that she ended up giving at a conference.
What I wish was different
I wish the experience would have been in D.C. instead of Charlotte just because of the difference in work. I would have really enjoyed being around actual policy-making decisions, and being able to connect with other interns from other offices representing different parts of the country.
Advice
A piece of advice I can share would be to make sure you are prepared for anything, everyday. No one day in the office was like the day before, and it's important to prepare yourself for the fast moving pace of a Congressional office.
