Private Tutor

June - August 2019 • Chadds Ford Township, PA

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting more experience teaching. I got to help students find a love for math and move forwards towards one day teaching myself.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked more hours. Due to the students' busy schedules and my own planning for college, it was hard for me to find times that matched with their schedules.

Advice

I would advice making sure that you actually care. When the tutor/teacher cares, the student is more likely to care. I am very passionate about math and teaching, so I came across to the students as likable, relatable, and someone who cared about their work.

Wedding Planning Assistant

April - July 2019 • Liberty, MO

What I liked

I liked being able to help design and execute the weddings. I liked being involved in the decision making process. I also got the chance to speak and interact with quite a few vendors in the area and make professional connections that way. It was a great learning experience and also a fantastic networking opportunity.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have fit better with the organization and Vice versa. The reason I left was not only because I was going back to school in August but also because I did not feel welcomed at my company and my needs were not being met which made it hard to want to work.

Advice

Make sure you do your research about the companies you are applying to and the position requirements and specifications. Also, make it clear to your prospective recruiting companies what type of employee you are and what you are looking for in a career.

Swim Teacher and Lifeguard

June - August 2019 • Weiser, ID

What I liked

For swim lessons I was able to create my own little program which was a really good experience for me. It taught me to be proactive. Life guarding was more of a side job, it did not pay as much but was also a good experience for me because I was able to work with the swim team!

What I wish was different

More pay for the life guarding... :) Swim lessons there were lots of learning curves, so now I can critique and make it better!

Advice

I learned a lot about myself and how to be proactive! My advice it to be patient with yourself, others and the experience overall.

Torrance CourtHouse/ SelfHelp Center

January 2018 • Torrance, CA

What I liked

Volunteering at the Torrance CourtHouse doing Family Law is definitely a great experience. I help different people from different backgrounds everyday with different types of cases. One of my favorite cases is Divorce Petition because I have to interview/ask questions to the victim/defendant as to why he/she is getting divorce. Of course it's hard process for them but what makes me glad that I'm able to help them fill out their paper works before filing to the court.

What I wish was different

N/A

Advice

Work on your confidence if you shy to talk to people, because confidence is essential in any workplace.

Au Pair

June - July 2019 • Bologna, Metropolitan City of Bologna

What I liked

Au Pairing in a small town in Italy was such an amazing experience. I was a nanny to 2 girls aged 9 and 11. The family was wonderful and we learned so much from each other. It was a great way to get to experience another culture without doing a semester abroad.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have learned a little more Italian, and been more creative with the children, especially during english lessons.

Advice

Go with an open mind! If you cannot go with friends, join a facebook group or meet travelers at hostels. But also don't be afraid of doing things completely alone! It was the best decision of my life.
